Dear Jim:

I received this letter yesterday.  Notice that she has Nathan's wife's name as Mary A.  Could Susan have been a nickname.  My Grandmother's name was Armina Elizabeth, but some of her relatives called her Susan.  Nobody knows why.

Dear Jim,

Want to let you know that I received the information that you sent me.  I certainly appreciate your sending it to me.  If I find any information I will forward it to you. Thanks to you and a cousin that I met only twice on my daddy's side of the family, my family history book is getting thicker.

The picture I'm sending is of mother and my aunt and uncles at they family reunion in 1952.

back row left to right -
Bessie Armina Carroll, Darrell Charles Carroll, Elnora Elizabeth Carroll, Leonard Cambren Carroll
Front row left to right - Melvin Harry Carroll (Johnson), their mother, Armina Elizabeth Brake, Marvin James Carroll (Johnson).

I'm also sending a copy of the birth certificate that I received from the Carrollton Co., MO court house of Charles Cambren Carroll.  As you see it doesn't have his name on it, but the date matches his birth and it lists him as the second child.

I'm hoping Mother and Elnora will go to the reunion with me and my two daughters.

Thank you.

Earl C. Johnson

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Shannon Chapel for Earl Charles Johnson, 67, who died in a local hospital yesterday morning. A native of Missouri, he had lived in Ceres the past 9 years. He was a retired carpenter. Survivors include his widow, Clara May of Ceres; three children, Charles F. Johnson of Washington, D. C., Marvin of Ogden, Utah and Elnora Bohanon of Enos, Texas; three brothers and three sisters. Internment will be in Ceres.

This is Charlie C. Carroll (Johnson) obit.  It is strange that they didn't mention his other son that he raised and also a Joseph from another marriage. This Elnora is not the one that was born to Charlie and Armina.  He named two daughters Elnora.  Notice the brothers and sisters were not named.  Sharon

Jim,

I am a granddaughter of Charlie (Charles) Cambren Carroll who went to California in 1920's with two younger sons and changed their last names to Johnson. I have written to you before but you may not remember.  I found Charlie in the 1930 census thanks to a kind man in California .  He is going to try and find an obit. for him.  He had changed his name to Earl C. Johnson. His wife is Rosie (which I had that info.) and he used his children's middle names in census.  He changed his year of birth but kept his month and day.  His children were Melvin Harry and Marvin James. He and wife at that time had a daughter who was named Eleanor. Which he had a daughter from my grandmother Armina with nearly the same name. In the death records his mother's maiden name was Ryan. So along with the children names it has to be him. I found him in San Francisco, E.D. 73, pg.11A.  He worked in some kind of plant but I can't read what kind it was.  This was such a find I just had to tell a Carroll family member.

Sharon Haley Smith, daughter of Bessie Carroll Haley daughter of Charlie Carroll.
