Letter from Carolyn Jane Williams, daughter of Henry Chester Carroll, son of John Wiley Carroll, my grandfather's brother.

February 19, 1993
Dear Jim:

First I would like to introduce myself to you.  My name is Jane Williams.  I am a daughter to Henry Chester Carroll who is a son to John Wiley Carroll, who is a brother to Henry Hamilton (Ham), and George Carroll.

My father, Henry Carroll, recently went to visit his cousin Woodrow (Woody) Carroll, and Woody said that you were working on the Carroll's family tree.

I have just started to work on the Carroll family.  I would appreciate any information that you might already have.  I will be happy to furnish you with the information that I have.  I have a Macintosh IIsi, and plan on putting it on my computer.  Woody mentioned that you had the information on a computer.  What kind of computer do you have?

About five years ago I visited Drumright, Yale, and Quay Oklahoma and the surrounding cemeteries (Quay & Oakhill in Drumright), and looked up grave sites and took pictures of the head stones of our relatives.

Dad is the youngest child of ten children and the only one still alive.  He is 83 years young, and I lie with him at the above address.  We just lost my mother Reba A. McMahan Carroll on July 9, 1992.  She died of heart failure, just went in her sleep very peacefully of which we are very thankful.  She and Dad would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 9, 1992.  She was 78 years old.  Dad was in the hospital with open heart surgery (double by-pass) when she passed away.  He is doing real good.  Both have always been very healthy and very, very young at heart and neither acted old or looked their age.  I have one brother Henry Wayne Carroll, and one sister, Sharon Kay Carroll Gray.  We all live here in Houston.  We are a very close family.  Wayne has three children, and three grandchildren.  Sharon has three children and one grandchild and one to be born on May 5th.  I have no children.

We were all born and raised in Wewoka, Oklahoma.  Mom and Dad had their home there till about 15 years ago when they sold it and moved to Houston, Texas.  My mom, sister, and I opened a couple of dress shops here in Houston that we owned and operated until a couple of years ago when we closed them.  I now work with my brother, Wayne, we sell oilfield equipment all over the world (try anyway).  Wayne just got back from Russia where we are trying to do business.  My sister is in real estate sales.

I just wanted to give you a little background of our family.  As I told you, I have just started working on the Carroll family tree.  As a matter of fact, my niece bought me a program for Christmas and she had to order it and I have not received it yet.  As soon as I get some information put together I will send it to you.

I have enclosed a list of telephone numbers and address of some of the Carroll's that we are close to.  Where you see Ernest's name, he was Dad's brother, Ernest J. Carroll, he had two children.  E.J. (Nibbs) Carroll and Marita Fay Carroll Moshier.  WE have always been very close to them and see each other often.  They both live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and have children and grandchildren.  Nibbs is like me, he is very interested in the family and always is looking up some long lost relative.

Nibbs called your father, Woody, today, and Nibbs in turn called me.  Alma gave him your address and telephone number.  She told him that you traveled a lot and was just recently in Oklahoma City.  The next time you go to the city, you should call Nibbs.  You would love him, and I know he would be thrilled to hear from you.  He is the one that took my dad to see your dad.

I will send you all information that I know of as soon as I get it ready.

Sincerely,
Jane Carroll Williams
