Dear Mr. Carroll,

I believe I may be related to you. My father was William F. Allard II. Lennie (Curtis) Allards son. I would love to learn more about the family history of the Carrolls and the Curtis's. Please feel free to e-mail me any time.

Sincerely,

Lisa  Wolf

Hello, Lisa -
We are second cousins twice removed (if my calculator is right).  My grandfather and your great-great grandfather were brothers; so our common ancestor is my great-grandfather and your ggg-grandfather, Nathan Carroll (and, of course, his wife Susan Sullivan).
I don't have a great deal on my Carroll line; however, it is always good to hear from relatives.

My Carroll line came from West Virginia and were found in southern Indiana (Clark County) in the mid-1800's.  Later they moved to Missouri (Carroll County), and before the turn of the 20th century, my grandfather moved to Oklahoma, near Yale, then Drumright, Oklahoma where he died in 1952.  Your great-great grandfather, John Wiley Carroll, was born 8/22/1861 in Ft. Wayne, Allen County, Indiana (per daughter Stella).  He married about 1886, Matilda Carolyn Ryan.  Looks like they had several children born in Carrollton, Carroll County, Missouri.  He died 5/8/1947 and is buried in the same cemetery as my grandfather, near Yale, Oklahoma.  As I was looking through my records, it looks like many of his children are buried in California (around Porterville).  There was a lot of migration of the Carrolls to California; however, most of my dad's immediate brothers and sisters stayed in Oklahoma.  Drumright is about 25 miles from Yale; that's where I grew up and I still have a brother that lives on the land my grandfather once owned there.

I've moved around some with my job; so I'm now living in Goodlettsville, TN, near Nashville.

I don't have a lot on your grandmother, Florence Ellen Carroll - I show that she was born June 16, 1896 in Carrollton, Mo; Died Feb 3, 1988 in Chico, California.  Most of what I have came from another descendant of John Wiley Carroll, through a brother of Florence Ellen - i.e. Charles Cambren Carroll.  She gave me a draft of a small book that was an output from her genealogy program.  There are what seem like a lot of miscellaneous notes, but since I haven't studied them in detail, I don't feel I know that much about your grandmother and the Curtis link.

I have two or three researchers listed on my website with their e-mail addresses if you would like to follow with them.  Also, I have a picture of my grandfather's family, and your great, great grandfather (John Wiley Carroll) is in the picture.  I have it digitized, so if you'd like me to send it to you, I can.

Please visit my website for a lots more information about me and my genealogy.  Thanks for writing.
