Jim,

Thank you for putting OUR KIN: A FAMILY HISTORY COLLECTION on the
web site.  I search & downloaded it this morning. You confirmed a lot of my
information.

My name is MELVA DENE SMITH Roach.  I am the daughter of WINONA
ELIZABETH RORABOUGH and Bois Melvin Smith.  Mother's parents were JOSEPH
ALFRED RORABOUGH and Irvilla Isabella Bennett. Joseph was the son of NATHAN
HENRY RORABOUGH and Susan Jane Crafton.  Nathan (John Mitchell’s brother) was
the son of NATHAN H. RORABOUGH and Margaret Mitchell.  Nathan H. was the son
of JOHN REINHART RORABOUGH and NANCY CATHERINE IDLEMAN.  You
said you did not know the names of John Reinhart Rorabough's children.  There
were 13.
John or Jehn R., Anna, Delilah, Phillip,Nathanial, Jerushia or Gerusha,
Drucilla, Nathan H.,Matilda, Isaac, Ruth A., Anthony Simon, Lucinda or Linda.  I can send you all the info pertaining to the Rorabough's by email attachments or if you want I will send it by snail mail.

I have seen Nathan Rorabough's picture that Lawrence Hartsog sent you.

I have been to Nathan H. Rorabough and Margaret Mitchell grave site.  Clark
Cemetery, outside of Memphis, Scotland Co., MO.  It's a beautiful cemetery on a
beautiful country road.

Well, talk to you soon. Melva

Hello, Melva -

Very nice to hear from you.  I did a bit of calculation, and it looks like we are 3rd cousins!  I'm always eager to hear from Rorabaugh cousins... (well I guess you use the Rorabough spelling).  It seems that there are several of us interested in genealogy.

I hope that we can stay in touch, and YES, I'd love to have any e-mail attachments regarding the family that you'd care to send me.   Would you mind if I listed you as a research cousin on my website?  This would help me keep you in mind as I gain further information.  Also, from Our Kin there is a link to Our Kin Community which is a bulletin board I'd like to develop for the purpose of keeping in touch with other researchers.  It's a new site and no one has joined yet, but if you'd like to give it a try, I'd be most happy.   It's an inter-active site, so we could post files and photographs and correspondence there for future use with the hope that we can get other Nathan Rorabaugh relatives to interact.   A direct link to Our Kin Community is http://communities.msn.com/OurKinCommunity. (Note: this site has since been discontinued.)

So you've been to Clark cemetery!  That's great.  If you have any pictures of that, I'd love to see them.

I live in Goodlettsville, Tennessee... near Nashville. I don't find time to do as much genealogical research as I'd like, however, if there is something you'd like for me to lookup in this area, let me know.   We have the state archives in Nashville.

Looking forward to hearing from you again.

James,  I am sorry I didn't answer your e-mail.  An emergence came up, a
wedding, a reunion, moving my daughter to Michigan, taking care of Daddy, and
whatever excuses I may think of.  Anyway it has been a very busy summer.  I
have misplace a copy of your e-mail. I think you ask me if you use my name as
a references.  The answer is a "Yes!"

My name is Melva Dene SMITH ROACH, my parents are Bois Melvin SMITH and
Winona Elizabeth RORABOUGH,  Mother's parents were Joseph Alfred RORABOUGH
and Irvilla Isabella BENNETT.  Joseph's parents were Nathan Henry RORABOUGH
and Susan Jane CRAFTON.  Nathan parents were Nathan H. RORABOUGH and Margaret
MITCHELL..

Now I have a question for you, if you can answer it.  The question concerns
Nathan Agustus RORABAUGH b. 25 Jan 1865 in Scotland Co., MO to John Mitchell
RORABOUGH and Mary Ellen CLARK.  You have marriage dates.  I know the names
of his wives, but no marriage dates or which order he married them.    The
first one is Bell FOWLER, second is Fannie LOGSTON, and the third is Martha
(last name unknown).  Can you line up the marriage dates with the wives?  I
would appreciate it is you could let me know.  I think the wives are in the
right order, but don't know.

Thank you for being so patient with me.

Thanks, Melva Dene, for writing.  No problem about the wait... I know how life can get!

I have been added you under the Contacts section of my website, under Rorabaugh Cousins.

Wish I could give you more information on Nathan Agustus.  My source on him was Berniece Thompson from Bristow, Oklahoma.  Her husband is descended from Anna Carlotta Rorabaugh which was a sister to my grandmother, Eliza Jane Rorabaugh.  Nathan would have been their brother.  I remember Grandmother talking about a brother, Nate, but she died in 1966, so I can't ask her!   Isn't it too bad that we don't really get interested in genealogy until TOO LATE IN LIFE.

I may have Berneice's address if you'd be interested in writing her.

Well, please keep in touch.  I'd love for you to join (or at least visit) the Our Kin Community.   I'd like to use it as a type of bulletin board, but haven't been able to get anyone to join in there with me.  I'm posting our correspondence there (I hope you don't mind) because it's a good place to store the information that comes through contacts on the Internet.  I try to keep in contact with my research cousins, but it is sometimes difficult.  A bulletin board seems like a good way to do that, but everybody has different preferences, so I don't hard peddle the site.  MSN offers these website for free.  It's a good place to share information AND photos.

The URL there is http://communities.msn.com/OurKinCommunity/   (discontinued)

Thanks again for writing

Jim, Thanks you for you lovely, informative newsletter.  I enjoyed read it.  On my way to visit John, my son, I stopped in Cambridge, OH to visit Dora Gray.  She is a descendent of John (Jacob) Randall Rohrbaugh, son of John Conrad Rohrbaugh and Barbara Rueger.  Her email address is <BDGRAY2@cs.com>.  We had a great time talking about our Rorabough's. We are a descendant of John Rinehart Rorabough.  John R. married Nancy Idleman and Jacob married Elizabeth Idleman.  Dora says that Nancy and Elizabeth are sisters.  If so, their parents are Conrad Idleman and Elizabeth Rush.  I knew that Nancy's parents were Conrad Idleman and Elizabeth.  Elizabeth last name was missing in my records.  Can you confirm that Elizabeth's last name is Rush.  Well, anyway, if you can't, I will assume that it is until it can be confirmed or discredited with another name.  Thanks!
