Miscellaneous research notes on the Ballew surname

Below, I believe these are my ggg-grandparents, Marvel and Heathy Belew, record 2176-2025.  Record 2177-2026 is my gg-grandparents, William and Isabella Belew married, but still living close to his parents.  (There is a marriage record farther down as well : “William Belew - Lurina J. Devers - 5/7/1857, William Ellis, J.P.”  The middle initial J could have been an I, but the record coincides as a date William and Isabella might have been married with a child 2 years old in 1860.)

See census of 1870 for their son, Wm.  The age at the time of that census coincides with the birth date of my great-grandfather, William Andrew Ballew.

Note: This shows Wm Ballew born in TN, but the 1860 and 1880 census show SC.  And it makes sense that he would have been born in SC, since he was one of the older children.

As late as 1880, Marvel and Hetta and their son William’s family lived as neighbors in Roane County, Tennessee.  But, it appears, that William’s first wife had died. See same marriage record below, quoted here: ” William D. Bellew - Malissa J. Bray - 10/24/1880, George Jones, M.G.”.  He must have married again shortly after the census.
