For a number of years while doing research I could find almost nothing on my great grandmother Ballew, i.e. Matilda Melvina Tippy. In recent years, I secured her death certificate and there found information about her father.  With the help of Ancestry.com, I've been able to extend her genealogy, on her paternal side, back several more generations.

She was born 30 Nov 1882 in Illinois, probably Williamson County. She is found in the 1880 Census at age 17 at Pleasant Valley, Wright Co., Missouri.  She married William A. Ballew on 14 Sep 1890 in Mansfield, Wright County, MO.  She had several children including my grandmother, Eva Ballew, when they were living in Big Apple, Oregon County, MO. She is found still there in the 1910 census. In the 1930 census, she was living in Winona, Shannon County, Missouri.   She died 05 Feb 1933 and is buried near Winona, Shannon County, MO. in Pine Lawn Cemetery.
